Ministries / Organizations
St. Bernard has many different ministries and organizations that add a great deal to our parish life. Watch the bulletin and listen to announcements to stay up to date!
Adult Education (RCIA)
If you are interested in converting to Catholicism or if you were baptized Catholic and are interested in learning more about your faith, we offer RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) classes.
For more information, please contact Father Sharman.
Confraternity of Catholic Doctrine (CCD)
Our school of religious education is open to children of the parish in Preschool (must be three years of age by September 1st) through Twelfth grade. Classes are held on Sundays September-May and promptly begin at 9:15 AM in the Schmidt Center.
If you would like to register your children for our CCD program, please contact us.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Our summer one week program is open to children of the parish in Preschool through those who completed Sixth grade this previous school year. Student helpers from Seventh grade up are a vital part of the program. Sessions are held for one week sometime during the summer months.
Please consult the weekly church bulletin for information on when this program will be held each year.
Faith Connections Adult Fellowship
Faith Connections Adult Fellowship hosts a monthly movie, discussion, and luncheon in the parish hall. All are welcomed and asked to bring a friend!
Watch the bulletin and listen to announcements for details on meetings and events.
Family Connections Fellowship Group
Family Connections Fellowship Group hosts a variety of family-oriented events throughout the year. These include movie nights, an Easter egg hunt, and “Trunk-or-Treat.”
Watch the bulletin and listen to announcements for details on meetings and events.
Hospitality Apostolate
The Hospitality Apostolate offers meals to parishioners just released from the hospital, new mothers, and shut-ins who need temporary care. If you can use their services or know someone who can, please contact any member of the group.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization founded in Connecticut by Blessed Michael McGivney in 1882.
The Knights of our parish host our youth fishing derby and parish picnic, offer an educational grant for senior high school students, sponsor a bus to the annual March for Life, sponsor a “Christ in Christmas” Card Contest and Christmas card sale and support local charitable organizations, such as the Carlisle Area Family Life Center.
If you would like to support the Knights, they often sell food gift cards to area supermarkets in the narthex after Mass. They also raise funds through their Hershey’s Ice Cream stand at the Perry County Fair.
Watch the bulletin and listen to announcements for dates and information, or contact any Knight.
Prayer Group
The Prayer Group meets each Wednesday morning at 8:30 AM in church. If you have prayer intentions for your loved ones or family members, for sick co-workers or people in the community, please give them to a member of the group for prayer and spiritual support.
Pro-Life Committee
The Pro-Life Committee stands behind the Church’s teaching that each one of us is made in the image and likeness of God and that all life is sacred. This group works to build awareness and advocacy for life and supports pro-life organizations in our area.
Annual activities include participating in the Perry County Life Chain, Cemetary of the Innocents (setup and dedication), the March for Life in Washington D.C., and distributing pro-life voting guides during election season. Fundraisers and collections are also held throughout the year. These often benefit local organizations such as the Carlisle Area Family Life Center, Lourdeshouse Maternity Services, and Undeafeated Courage (mobile ultrasound unit).
Watch the bulletin and listen to announcements for meeting dates. Let us continue to pray for an end to abortion in our nation and around the world.
Youth Group
The parish youth group’s goal is to deepen and develop the faith life of the parish youth while having fun and serving the community.
Past activites have included Christmas caroling, hosting and serving a Soup Bowl dinner to benefit the Interfaith Shelter in Harrisburg, participating in the Perry County Life Chain, and more.
Meetings are held several times per month. All parish youth from grades 7-12 are welcome to attend. For more information on activities and meeting dates and locations, please contact one of the youth group leaders or Deacon Robinson.
